Neuromodulators (Botox/Dysport/Daxxify)

Precare:

If you have a special event or vacation, please consider scheduling your appointment at least 4-6 weeks in advance.

  • Arrive to your appointment with a clean face
  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, ginkgo biloba, garlic, flax oil, cod liver oil, Vitamin
  • A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids at least one week before and after to minimize bruising or bleeding.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine 24 hours before your appointment to reduce risk for bruising/bleeding.
  • Avoid intense exercise right before your appointment
  • Optional: take over-the-counter zinc a few days before your appointment to make your neuromodulator last longer

Postcare:

  • Avoid lying flat or touching the area for at least 4 hours after your appointment
  • Avoid exercise for 24 hours (light walking is OK)
  • Avoid wearing headbands or tight hats after treatment.
  • Neuromodulators can take up to 14 days to fully take effect. It is recommended that if a touch-up is needed, it be done 14-21 days after the initial treatment.
  • It is normal for one side to set in faster than the other, however if any asymmetry remains after 14 days, please give us a call

Postcare:

  • Swelling is normal and intermittent for up to 2 weeks.
  • No makeup or lip balm for 12 hours (Aquaphor is OK)
  • Change sheets and pillow cases, don’t let pets sleep with you tonight
  • If you did a lip treatment, no sucking out of straws or heavy kissing for 24 hours
  • Use speaker when on the phone
  • No dental work for 2 weeks
  • Do not touch injected area for 24 hours and wash your hands often
  • No exercise for 24-48 hours
  • Keep hair back until the next day
  • No standing water for 24 hours (no lake, pool, bath, river, ocean)
  • Take Arnica, Benadryl or Tylenol as needed for pain and swelling
  • Call SkinScience if:
    • You have a bruise where you were NOT injected
    • A bruise looks lacy/mottled
    • You have significant pain. Soreness is normal but severe pain is not

Traditional Microneedling

Precare:

Postcare:

  • After microneedling, most patients experience redness, swelling, bruising, and a sunburn-like sensation. These symptoms usually subside within 24-48 hours
  • Downtime can be reduced with exosomes, PRP, or PDRN
  • Avoid touching your face. Answer your phone on speaker. Change your pillowcase before bed
  • After leaving our office, do not wash your face until the next day. When washing your face, use a mild cleanser and moisturizer with warm water instead of hot. Avoid scrubbing your face, pat dry instead
  • If using growth factors or PRP, leave on the skin for at least 12-24 hours.
  • Avoid sun exposure for 1 week and use a high SPF sunscreen
  • Avoid any active ingredient skincare for 1 week following procedure

Postcare:

  • After Ultimate Duo, most patients experience redness, swelling, bruising, and a sunburn-like sensation. These symptoms usually subside within 24-48 hours
  • Downtime can be reduced with exosomes, PRP, or PDRN
  • You will likely experience microcrusting, which are tiny little scabs that occur as a result of the laser. These will look like fine “coffee grinds” and feel like sandpaper. They will slough off throughout the week
  • Avoid touching your face. Answer your phone on speaker. Change your pillowcase before bed
  • After leaving our office, you may wash your face before bed. Use a mild cleanser and moisturizer with warm water instead of hot. Avoid scrubbing your face, pat dry instead
  • If using growth factors or PRP, leave on the skin for at least 12-24 hours.
  • Avoid sun exposure for 1 week and use a high SPF sunscreen

Precare:

Postcare:

  • With clean hands, massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times per day for 5 days after your treatment
  • Within the first 24 hours of your treatment, apply an icepack or cool compresses to the treatment area to reduce swelling
  • Avoid UV exposure until swelling and redness have resolved
  • You can wash your face with gentle face wash starting in the evening after your treatment
  • A few days after treatment, you may look as you did before treatment; this is normal and temporary
  • Visible results appear within the first few treatment sessions
  • For optimal results, you will likely need 3-4 treatment sessions and then maintenance for optimal results

Clear and Brilliant

Precare:

Postcare:

  • Use a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF30+ for 1 week
  • The treated area may be slightly red and swollen for 1-3 days and it may feel like a mild sunburn. Cold compresses may be used to help reduce these symptoms. If needed, use Tylenol or Ibuprofen in recommended doses
  • You may experience microcrusting (MENDS), which are little scabs that look like coffee grinds and feel like sandpaper. This is normal; they will slough off throughout the week
  • Blistering, crusting, bleeding and scabbing can occur. Do not pop blisters, they will drain on their own. OK to apply Aquaphor to any open wounds
  • OK to resume active skincare ingredients 1 week after
  • Avoid direct sun exposure or artificial tanning lights
  • Avoid hot baths, sauces, hot tubs, or exposure to excessive heat for 3 days after procedure

Precare:

  • You may be given an aftercare kit from your provider to use the week after your procedure; they will give you specific instructions on how to use these
  • Otherwise, use a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF30+ for 1 week

Postcare:

Immediately after Treatment
  • Expect redness, warmth, and mild swelling—similar to a sunburn.
  • Tiny micro-crusts (small brown dots) may appear within 24–72 hours. These are normal and part of the healing process.
  • The treated area may feel tight, dry, or sensitive.
Cleansing & Moisturizing

Immediately After Treatment

  • If you were sent home with a Fusion Serum, apply it every 1–2 hours for the next 6–8 hours, or until finished. Not all treatments are sent home with Fusion Serum.
  • Once the Fusion Serum is finished, begin applying the Epicutis Lipid Serum.
  • If you had only an eye treatment, you may receive a Fusion Serum and you will be given an Epicutis Lipid Serum to use at home.

First 24 Hours

  • Apply only the Fusion Serum and Lipid Serum during the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid sunscreen and makeup during this time.
  • Use a gentle cleanser (we prefer the Epicutis Oil Cleanser)
  • Pat face dry with a clean towel, do not rub. We recommend Clean Skin Club disposable bamboo towels.

48 Hours After Treatment

  • For face treatments, begin applying a thin layer of Epicutis Hyvia Cream (barrier repair) after the Lipid Serum, twice daily. (Do not use Hyvia around the eyes, only use lipid serum)
  • Continue to use Lipid Serum as needed for comfort and hydration.
  • After 48 hours, wear mineral sunscreen outdoors and protect your skin from the sun with a hat or visor.

48–72 Hours

  • Continue with the Lipid Serum and Hyvia Cream. You may resume your normal skincare however, your skin may be more sensitive so we recommend high quality products without fragrance or other irritating ingredients (please ask your provider if you need recommendations.)
  • Avoid retinols and acids for at least a week. Don’t forget sunscreen!
Restrictions
  1. Avoid manual exfoliation for 2 weeks.
  2. Avoid retinols and acids for at least 1 week.
  3. At 2 weeks, if MENDs (micro-epidermal necrotic debris) or brown spots are still visible, you may use a topical glycolic product. This is sometimes more common in darker skin types, men, or body treatments.
Sun Protection
  • Sun exposure must be strictly avoided for at least 2 weeks.
  • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily (mineral sunscreen preferred).
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and seek shade if outdoors.
Makeup & Skincare
  • Avoid makeup for at least 24–48 hours, or until skin is no longer red or sensitive.
  • Resume your normal skincare routine only once all redness and sensitivity have resolved.
What to Avoid
  • No picking, scratching, or exfoliating the micro-crusts—allow them to shed naturally.
  • Avoid hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and swimming for 48–72 hours.
  • Avoid intense workouts or sweating for 24 hours.
  • No harsh treatments (chemical peels, microneedling, waxing, lasers) until advised by your provider.
Healing Timeline
  • Redness/swelling: usually resolves in 24–72 hours.
  • Micro-crusts: shed naturally in 4–7 days (may take up to 10 days).
  • Skin texture/brightness: improvements continue over several weeks/months as collagen remodels.
When to Contact Us
  • Excessive swelling, blistering, or severe pain
  • Signs of infection (increasing redness, warmth, pus)
  • Any unexpected or concerning reaction

Frax

Precare:

  • Avoid oral antibiotics 1 week before
  • Avoid isotretinoin (Accutane) 6 months before
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications 1 week before
  • For all other medications, check with your prescribing provider as to whether or not they are photosensitive and if it is appropriate to stop them before Light & Bright

Postcare:

Immediately After Treatment (First 24 Hours)
  • Skin will feel warm, look red, and may be slightly swollen—similar to a sunburn. This is normal.
  • You may apply cool compresses, a post-treatment mask, or an ice pack (wrapped in a clean towel) in 10–15 minute intervals to soothe discomfort.
  • Use a gentle cleanser (we recommend Epicutis Oil Cleanser) and lukewarm water. Pat dry with a clean towel—do not rub.
  • Apply Epicutis Lipid Serum or an unscented, gentle moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated.
  • Do not apply makeup for at least 24-48 hours, and only if your skin is intact and not sensitive.
Days 2–4
  • Skin may darken, feel rough, and start to flake or peel. This is part of the natural healing process.
  • Allow the skin to shed naturally. Picking or scrubbing can cause scarring or pigmentation changes.
  • Continue gentle cleansing 2x daily.
  • Reapply moisturizer frequently to prevent dryness and tightness.
  • Avoid direct sun. If you must be outside, wear a wide-brimmed hat.  Begin applying a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen (SPF 30+) daily. This is critical to prevent hyperpigmentation and protect your results.
Days 5–7
  • Redness will lessen, and most flaking will resolve. New, healthy skin will emerge.
  • Mineral-based makeup can be applied once skin is healed and no open areas remain.
Weeks 2 and Beyond
  • Resume your normal skincare routine as advised by your provider (avoid retinol, glycolic acid, and strong exfoliants until cleared).
  • Continue diligent sun protection every day.
  • Results will develop gradually over the next 1–3 months as collagen builds and pigmentation fades.
Restrictions
  • Avoid sun exposure for at least 4 weeks.
  • No strenuous exercise, hot tubs, or saunas for 24–48 hours.
  • No harsh scrubs, exfoliants, or active products (retinol, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C serums) until skin is fully healed.
When to Call Your Provider
  • Excessive swelling or redness that worsens after day 3.
  • Yellow crusting or pus (signs of infection).
  • Severe pain unrelieved by recommended aftercare.

Light & Bright (IPL + Frax)

Precare:

  • Arrive 30 minutes before your appointment for numbing
  • Arrive to with a clean face
  • Avoid active skincare (ex: retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, AHAs/BHAs, peels, etc) 1 week before
  • If you have a history of Herpes Simplex virus infection, you may consider taking antiviral medication as prescribed by your doctor
  • Avoid tanning (suntanning, artificial tanning lights, and spray tanning) 1 week before. Inform your provider if you have had any sun exposure.
  • Avoid oral antibiotics 1 week before
  • Avoid isotretinoin (Accutane) 6 months before
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications 1 week before

Postcare:

  • Avoid saunas, strenuous exercise, and any activity that may cause excessive heat to the treatment area for ~ 24 hours
  • A feeling of dryness/itchiness may be noticed; this is normal
  • Do not scrub or scratch the treated areas
  • You may notice pigmentation darkening after treatment; this is normal and will gradually get lighter
  • Regularly apply a moisturizer to the treated area
  • Consider an occlusive such as Aquaphor if dryness is significant
  • It is recommended not to apply makeup for 24 hours
  • Do not use peels or aggressive cleansers for 5-10 days – or until crusting/dry skin has cleared
  • Inform your doctor immediately if there is continued or severe discomfort, any sign of blistering, or a sudden rash. These are extremely uncommon but require immediate attention

CoolPeel/Deka/C02

Precare:

  • Arrive 30 minutes before your appointment for numbing
  • Arrive to with a clean face
  • Avoid active skincare (ex: retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, AHAs/BHAs, peels, etc) 1 week before
  • Avoid tanning (suntanning, artificial tanning lights, and spray tanning) 1 week before
  • If you have a history of Herpes Simplex virus infection, you may consider taking antiviral medication as prescribed by your doctor
  • Avoid oral antibiotics 1 week before
  • Avoid isotretinoin (Accutane) 6 months before
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications 1 week before

Postcare:

Postcare:

  • You may have transient redness, swelling, itching, and burning for a few minutes up to 48 hours. You may apply aloe vera or cold compress.
  • Avoid direct sunlight. Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
  • Do not apply makeup until the redness has subsided.
  • Avoid hot showers for 24 hours. Use cool water and gentle cleansers for 48 hours.
  • Small scabs may develop over areas of pigmentation 24-48 hours following your treatment. Keep areas well moisturized and allow them to fall off on their own. This is an expected occurrence with IPL.
  • You may notice pigmentation darkening after treatment; this is normal and will gradually get lighter
  • Avoid the use of exfoliants, acid peels, and chemical or mechanical irritants for one week after your treatment.

Vascular

Precare:

  • Arrive with a clean face
  • Avoid active skincare (ex: retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, AHAs/BHAs, peels, etc) 1 week before
  • Avoid tanning (suntanning, artificial tanning lights, and spray tanning) 1 week before
  • Avoid oral antibiotics 1 week before
  • Avoid isotretinoin (Accutane) 6 months before
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications 1 week before

Postcare:

  • You may have transient redness, swelling, itching, and burning for a few minutes up to 48 hours. You may apply aloe vera or cold compress.
  • Avoid direct sunlight. Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
  • Do not apply makeup until the redness has subsided.
  • Avoid hot showers for 24 hours. Use cool water and gentle cleansers for 48 hours.
  • Small scabs may develop or bruising over the areas treated. Vessels may initially appear darker.
  • Avoid the use of exfoliants, acid peels, and chemical or mechanical irritants for one week after your treatment.

Laser Hair Removal

Precare:

  • Avoid UV exposure seven days before your treatment.
  • Clients who are sunburned or tanned must wait two weeks before being treated to avoid additional skin damage.
  • Avoid sunless tanning products 7-10 days before your treatment. It is recommended that you exfoliate the area to remove any residual color.
  • Please shave the area you desire treated within 24 hours of your planned treatment.
  • Clients should come to appointments with clean skin in the area to be treated.
  • Avoid chemical peels and other laser procedures in the area to be treated for two weeks before and two weeks after your laser treatment.
  • Avoid all alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy products (AHA/BHA), hydroquinone, and retinol/retinoid for seven days before treatment.
  • Clients with any abnormal lesions, moles, or spots on the area to be treated should be cleared by their primary medical provider before treatment.
  • Clients must stop waxing, tweezing, and chemical epilation three weeks before treatment.
  • Clients who have used Accutane or similar products within the last six months cannot have laser hair removal treatments.
  • Clients should not perform physical activity that increases body temperature or blood pressure within 2 hours before and after treatments.
  • Antibiotics may increase photosensitivity. We recommend that you check with your prescribing physician before receiving laser treatments if you are taking a long-term antibiotic. If you become ill and begin taking an antibiotic, you must be off the medication for seven days before laser treatment.

Postcare:

  • Avoid extended UV exposure for seven days post-treatment.
  • If blisters occur, do not puncture. If the skin is broken, apply an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment until healed.
  • Over-the-counter medication such as Tylenol is recommended for post-treatment discomfort.
  • You may also apply cool compresses, ice packs, or aloe vera to alleviate discomfort due to heat.
  • Avoid using seat warmers immediately after treatment.
  • Avoid any additional laser treatments or chemical procedures on the treated area for at least 2 weeks post-treatment or until healing has occurred.
  • Using a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30 or higher is critical when receiving laser treatments and is recommended for ongoing maintenance.
  • To achieve the best results, complete the full treatment schedule at the intervals recommended by your nurse.
  • Exfoliate treated areas to minimize the risk of ingrown hairs.
  • Avoid strenuous sports activities or hot water/ saunas/ Jacuzzi for up to 24 hours after treatment to minimize irritation and prolonged redness.
  • After your treatment, the hair may appear to grow for up to the next few weeks. This is the treated hair being shed from the follicle and is not new growth. Once the hair has fully shed, you may be hair-free for a few days, up to a few weeks following your next treatment.
  • Shaving is recommended between sessions and is recommended the day before your next appointment to minimize discomfort. If the areas are not cleanly shaved, we may not be able to treat them.
  • You should schedule subsequent sessions typically in four weeks for facial areas and six weeks for other areas of the body. Adhering to this schedule is important to ensure the success of the treatments.
  • Electrolysis, waxing, threading, tweezing, or sugaring must be avoided between sessions.
  • Shaving or trimming hair may be resumed normally during the duration of treatment.

  • Kybella is an injectable medication that permanently destroys fat cells; however, if weight is gained, new fat cells can occur

  • You may take Tylenol to relieve any mild discomfort
