COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY
ABOUT DERMAPEN MICRONEEDLING TECHNOLOGY
As we age, we experience a reduction in fibroblast cells, which are building blocks of collagen proteins that help keep our cells strong and connected. This results in wrinkles and sagging of the skin. Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a safe and chemical-free method to trigger new collagen production.
Microneedling therapy is a very simple procedure that uses a hand-controlled device with tiny, shallow needles to puncture your outer layer of skin to create a controlled skin injury. This damage to the skin will stimulate your body to produce new collagen and elastin. The freshly produced collagen will rejuvenate your skin by filling in fine lines, resulting in an overall improvement in the texture and tightness of your skin by improving the wrinkles, scars and stretch marks that can make you look younger as you age.
Microneedling is not restricted to the face. It can be used on many other body parts, such as arms, legs, neck, back, hands and abdomen.
One microneedling session generally takes 30 minutes. At first, your skin will appear a little bit red — similar to a light sunburn, but your skin will return to normal in a couple of days. The natural growth of collagen will not happen instantly; it takes place over weeks and months. This treatment is not designed to be an “instant fix,” but is intended to improve the health of your skin in the long term.
How many numbers of treatments does one need?
The number of treatments is predicated on two things: the first being the results you want to achieve, and the second being which part of the body treatment is being performed on. For wrinkles or stretch marks, depending on the severity, you may need 4 to 8 microneedling treatments to achieve optimal results.
What skin conditions can be treated with micro needling?e that all treatments are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to ensure the health and safety of your skin. The risk involved in microneedling treatments are minimal. After a treatment, dry skin or red discoloration may occur, which will typically subside within a week.
What skin conditions can be treated with micro needling?
We also offer platelet rich plasma (PRP) which can be added to the treatment to get optimal results.
What is platelet rich plasma (PRP)?
PRP contains concentrated platelets in plasma which is about 15 times more than normal blood.
The Platelets contain variety of growth factors such as PDGF, TGF beta, FGF, IGF-1, EGF, VEFG plus cytokines and adhesion molecules that recruits your bodies “stem-cells” at the injection site and facilitate regeneration of tissue (collagen, elastin, blood vessels, nervous tissue, cartilage, etc.).
Plasma is essential for cell survival as it contains nutrients, vitamins, hormones, electrolytes and proteins. Proteins are key molecules for the coagulation process and the formation of the fibrin polymer that will serve as a scaffold for cell migration, differentiation and proliferation. Platelets (together with the liquid plasma in PRP) are body’s natural response to injuries and contain a large amount of growth factors that induces accelerated tissue regeneration and proliferation.
Are there any Special Preparations before having a PRP procedure?
In order to achieve best results and decrease side effects, we ask that you read and comply with the following instructions.
Avoidance of Accutane for the past 6 months
Avoid Botox/facial fillers 2-4 weeks prior to treatment
Avoid Alcohol 7 days prior to PRP treatment as alcohol diminishes stem cell release.
Avoid retinoids, topical antibiotics, exfoliants, hydroquinone, sunburn, and benzoyl peroxide 7 days prior to procedure
Avoidance of IPL/Laser procedures for the past 7 days prior
No waxing, depilatory creams or electrolysis 5-7 days prior to procedure
No topical agents that may increase skin sensitivity or dryness 7 days prior to treatment such as topical retinoid or hydroquinone products, alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) beta hydroxyl acids (BHA), exfoliating masks, or benzoyl peroxide acne products).
No shaving the day of the procedure
No significant recent changes in the skin breakdown of skin or excess dryness or sunburn
If history of cold sores, you should be on antiviral agent for 7 days prior to and at least 3 days after treatment.
No NSAIDS or steroid medication 7 days before and 14 days after the treatment as these agents will diminish the clinical outcome as platelets work by causing inflammatory cascade for tissue repair. You may take Tylenol or pain or discomfort both before an after without diminishing efficacy of PRP.
Those patients who smoke, quality of PRP will be lower due to diminished stem cell release.
